Safety Programs

Compliance Advisory Services creates customized safety programs and policies based on our client's needs. We believe that any safety program or policy that your company adopts should be a living, breathing, functional document that truly benefits management and employees by offering practical guidance on creating and maintaining a safe workplace while meeting regulatory requirements.

Our consultants will visit your facility and meet with management and employees to create safety programs that are more than just another book on the shelf that is never referenced.

Some of the safety programs we have available are listed below, along with a brief description. Other specialized safety programs can be developed upon request.

Bloodborne Pathogens

This program provides policies and procedures designed to protect employees that may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens as part of their job responsibilities. An example of affected workers may be first aid providers. The program may include information on the use of personal protective equipment and universal precautions.

Confined Space Entry (Permit-Required)

The Confined Space Entry program identifies the personnel involved in an entry, their responsibilities, and the procedures required to ensure the safety of all participants. The program also lists training and recordkeeping requirements and will include examples of hazard assessment forms for confined spaces and confined space entry permits.

Contractor Safety

If you have outside contractors working at your facilities, you must have an effective way to communicate to them the hazards they will be exposed to while on site. You must also communicate your workplace safety expectations to contractors and receive information from the contractors about any hazardous chemicals or processes to which your employees may be exposed.

Electrical Safety

An Electrical Safety program is required for businesses where employees may be exposed to electrical shock or other injury resulting from working near energized equipment. This program will be in addition to a company's Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) program.

Emergency Action Plan (EAP)

Emergency Action Plans are created to protect employees from natural and man-made disasters that may occur at the workplace. A good EAP will provide guidance on what to do should an emergency occur, emergency contact information, and assembly points for employee accountability.

Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention plan identifies major fire hazards, procedures to control accumulation of flammable and combustible materials, and parties responsible for maintaining equipment to prevent ignition of fires.

General Facility Safety

This program provides an overview of safety concerns at a facility. Some areas that may be addressed include housekeeping, machine safety, and general hazard communication procedures.

Grain Handling Facilities

Employers operating grain handling facilities are required to follow regulations found in 29 CFR 1910.272. Some of the items addressed in this program are hazard identification and awareness training, housekeeping and preventive maintenance plans, and entry into grain storage structures.

Hazard Communication (Hazcom)

If you have chemicals at your facility, then you must have a hazard communication program. This program should identify the chemicals on site, provide for training of employees in the hazards associated with the chemicals, address how material safety data sheets (MSDS) are obtained, and list procedures to ensure all chemicals on site are properly labeled.

Hearing Conservation

Employers with areas in their facilities where the 8-hour time weighted average noise exposure is equal to or greater than 85 decibels are required to have a Hearing Conservation program. Elements of this program include monitoring exposure, audiometric testing program, employee training, and the use of hearing protection devices.

Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

Prior to service or maintenance work being performed on machinery or equipment, all sources of hazardous energy must be controlled to protect employees performing this work. The LOTO program defines which employees are authorized to perform lockout/tagout, the equipment used to lock and tag out a piece of equipment, and specific procedures to be followed for each piece of equipment for the control of hazardous energy.

Respiratory Protection

A Respiratory Protection program is required if employees are exposed to hazardous environments that require the use of respirators. The program includes respirator selection, medical evaluation, training to recognize respiratory hazards, and training on the proper use of respirators.
